National Palace Museum - the 7th Most Visited Museum in the World

On 12 March, 2011 I visited National Palace Museum for some reason. This was the second time I visited the museum. It's many years since I looked round it for the first time. The mainland tourists occupied National Palace Museum, same as anywhere else in Taiwan. From my point of view, National Palace Museum is really a great museum because of treasures of the Forbidden City. The Best of the Best at the National Palace Museum Plus a "Once in a Lifetime Chance" Writing about Taiwan's National Palace Museum (NPM) is, perhaps, the "coals-to-Newcastle" equivalent of travel writing.

* By presenting the ROC ID, Taiwanese Citizens may visit the exhibitions free-of-charge between 18:30 and 21:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
* There are five free entrance days for this museum: New Year's Day (Jan. 1), the Lantern Festival, International Museum Day (May 18), World Tourism Day (Sept. 27), and National Day (Oct. 10).

The museum offers free guided tours in English at 10am, 3pm and in Chinese at 9:30 a.m, 10:00 a.m, 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Parent-child tours are available on weekends: Begins Saturday & Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. If you prefer to move about at your own pace, there's an English headphone guide (NT$200). Visitors will be asked to deposit a valid ID (such as an ID card, driver's license, health insurance card, or passport) or NT$3,000 in cash, which will be returned to the user upon the return of the touring equipment.

The National Palace Museum  (traditional Chinese: 國立故宮博物院; simplified Chinese: 国立故宫博物院; pinyin: Guólì Gùgōng Bówùyuàn) is an antique museum in Shilin, Taipei, Republic of China. The Lonely Planet said"This museum is home to what could quite easily be termed the world's largest and finest collection of Chinese art; it is unfortunate that the overall interior setup of the museum does not match with the grandeur of the collection. Its renovation, ongoing for several years, was pronounced 'completed' with great fanfare in 2007; however, we have to liken the National Palace Museum to a sumptuous gourmet banquet made with the finest ingredients, but prepared by a disinterested chef and arranged by colour-blind kitchen staff."
